THIRTY YEARS OLD!?!?! Can you believe it? It's amazing how fast time has flown now that I've been out of school for a while. Since I've been approaching such a milestone, I've been thinking about getting healthier for a while now. I've never been overweight by anyone's definition (except maybe Hollywood's ), but I don't really feel healthy. It doesn't take very long for me to be out of breath or to get tired out. My friends and co-workers keep telling me to just wait until I hit 35 or 40 when my metabolism slows down and then I'll start to gain weight. I've tried a couple of other things to workout, but I've always gotten bored with them. It's also hard for me to get motivated since my goal is the vague "getting healthier" and not the absolute "lose X pounds". Actually by trying to get healthier I would be more likely to gain weight since muscle weights more than fat. I really want to be healthy though. I figure it would be easier to get started now while I'm still relatively young to try to get good habits into place. Then I would be less likely to be overweight or have a heart attack or something when I'm 50 or 60. I really enjoy playing video games so I'm hoping the Wii will help me get started. It offers almost the same amount of fun that I have playing video games, but it gets me off the couch and moving. This might be just what I need to get motivated. So far I've had the dancing game Helix for about three weeks now and am really enjoying it. I just bought the Wii Fit this Tuesday and have also enjoyed this as well but it doesn't seem to be as much a workout as Helix. Let's see how this goes! Comments: 80 My Wii Fit Progress Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:05 am by Kech I'm just a 44 year old guy from Montreal, Quebec who feels fantastic. I purchased the Wii Fit as a Christmas gift for my wife, but later found out it was for me too. I started using the Fit in Mid January at the beginning weight of 193lbs. After carefully watching what I eat and a daily 1 hour Wii Fit workout 7 days a week I have lost, as of today, a total of 25lbs.(168lbs.). I still have 13lbs. to go for my goal of weighing 155lbs., but have no doubts that I'll reach it. I have so much more energy and feel much more confident in myself. I just wanted to share my experience with all of you to help those who need motivation to keep going. NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!! Comments: 5 Peg's Progress Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:21 am by dancerpeg Okay I'm going to lay it out about my weight. I started out on Jan 28 ,07 @ 242 lbs then I lost 30 lbs by Sept. 07 and then gain 25 lbs back. So now I've been really serious since July 5, 08 my birthday so far I way 198 lbs. So when I got below the 200 lbs, man did I celebrate. I have not been below 200 for over 15 years. I have been on the Wii every morning to weight in but I had a couple of days of not working out because of work and activity that took me away from the house. So I think with this website we will not get bored with exercising now because we have a friends to encourage us on. I bought Jillian Michael Fitness Ultimatum 2009. It's okay but I still like the one's on the Wii-Fit. So I will get back on this one later. When I am doing the aerobic free step I just added some hand weights. Well thanks for listening today. Peg Comments: 48 David's Rant Thu Feb 19, 2009 3:54 pm by David 2 weeks now working out anywhere from 30-60 minutes a day (Mon-Fri) I haven't lost any weight yet but I do notice that my stress/anxiety levels have really dropped while my energy has increased so I guess I am on the right track for a slow weight loss goal. My wife even commented that I was nicer to be around. Now I just have to find a way to tell her not to stand behind me while I work out and clap her hands and say " Way to go Babe keep it up your doing good" over and over again. Bless her heart for being so supportive but damn it drives me crazy. I decided to follow my doctors recommendation of tracking my calorie intake so I found a nice free website and I am going to try to stay under 2000 calories a day. Yesterday was my first full day of tracking and I only had a count of 1719 at the end of the day so I think the 2k limit is a realistic goal. Yes I did feel hungry up until diner time but I fought the urge to snack, I think this will be tougher to do then the exercises. Comments: 31 MansfieldBuckeye's Progress Wed Feb 11, 2009 11:34 am by MansfieldBuckeye I thought this would be neat to do. My first goal is to lose 26 pounds in the first 2 months which should lower my BMI to near 31 maybe--then put in another goal. Thus Far: I received my Wii Fit for my birthday and started using it on January 28th. Through today I have over 7 hours of training. My weight is hard to say at this point because I didn't have the boots (or whatever they call them) on the first time I weighed in, but my guess is I have lost about 7 pounds, not helped by adding 3 pounds over the weekend when I took a trip with some of my college buddies. My BMI started around 34.6 and is now at 33.67. Excercises: I use Yoga (I must improve my posture/muscle tone/flexibility to truly benefit) as well as aerobics (usually advance step and advance boxing with an occasional run) every day I am on Wii Fit. I do weight training on the side but have done some of the strength exercises and look to incorporate them more as I go along. Comments: 4 Wow!!! Did I blow it yesterday... Mon Feb 16, 2009 1:35 pm by KeithA39 I'm sure I ate in excess of 5,000 calories. Reason I'm writing is that we all screw up. Got up and, after getting angry at myself, I decided to try again. Have to. Did some Wii Fit and ate a reasonable breakfast. It's hard to pick up again, but I think that's the trick. I'm gonna be my own worst enemy at times, but I'm not sure if it isn't part of the process...just not so exaggerated as I did. Comments: 11 FitMonkey Log Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:42 pm by FitMonkey I guess I should start one of these too. I started exercising again in September 2008, so this will only log from today forward. Well, yesterday actually. I'll always be 1 day behind. Wednesday Feb. 5. Morning Weigh-In: 183 *I weigh in before I eat or drink anything Food: Ate ok. No snacks. Had greasy fajitas for dinner because we went out and they were on sale. Only water with dinner. Exercise: Ran on Treadmill for 20 min. I run in intervals, which I learned from the Body for Life program I did about 8-9 years ago (with great results). Each minute I ran at a different speed. Here are the speeds by minute: 4.0 x 2 (warmup walk) (5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0) x 4 7.5 4.0 - end 20 min 3.0 x 3 (cooldown) Then I watched LOST, ate a zone perfect bar, and went to bed. Comments: 47 BrendaW's WiiFit-ness Diary Sun Mar 01, 2009 6:27 pm by BrendaW Dear Diary, Have had my Wii since 1-15-09 and used Wii Sports until I got WiiFit a couple of weeks later. I used Wii Fit exclusively for a couple of weeks until I got Samba De Amigo and loved that. Really made me work up a sweat so I started doing that until Lady Gryphon suggested Helix in the games section of this forum. Helix is great and is even a better workout than Samba De Amigo. Anyway, I'm 44 years old, married and have two grown daughters. One is 19 (and she is regurlarly using Wii Fit) and my other daughter is 22. I am very obese (I was going to say overweight but I'm trying to own up to what I am) and need to lose about 100 pounds to reach my ideal weight. I will be thrilled to even lose a quarter of that to get started! I'm 5'10" tall and weigh about 260 (it was a little under that last time I did my body check). I have fibromyalgia and an autoimmune disorder that could be lupus (my doctor has gone back and forth on that diagnosis but tells me it's something autoimmune). I also have degenerative disc disease in my back and have also had back surgery for a double herniated disc about 10 years ago. I'm actually having a pretty good year and have been feeling good and finding a fun, low impact exercise routine I can stick to has been great! Although the scale isn't showing much of a difference since I started working out (actually went up about 10 pounds), my clothes are telling a different story. I wear stretchy pants and sweat pants as my primary wadrobe. My stretchy pants aren't needing to stretch out so much any more and are now baggy around my butt and thigh area. Still a bit snug around my belly but nowhere near as snug as they were when I started. I have a pair of sweatpants that are tighter than my others that I hated wearing because of how tight they were all over, tight in the legs, tight in the butt and tight around the gut. Now they are very comfy to wear!! Also my large boobs are a smidgen smaller and a smidgen when their huge to begin with feels better and am now fitting my bras a bit better. So the scale isn't concerning me because my body is definitely changing!! Since I've gotten the Wii and started exercising (is it really exercise when you are having so much fun and enjoying it?) I've been exercising 5 to 7 times a week. I'd also say since I started using Samba and Helix I've been working out for at least an hour a day as well!!! When I was doing Wii Fit it was for a bout 45 minutes so I'm pleased that I've worked up to that hour. With Samba and especially with Helix that time flies by and that is something I've never really experienced with exercise before. Usually the time drags and I am constantly checking the clock to see how much time is left! On Thursday when I was working out I felt tingly and a bit lightheaded so I stopped after only doing about 33 minutes. So my last couple of workouts I've been doing an extra ten minutes to try and make up for that time lost and it's not feeling any longer so I may continue to do keep those extra ten minutes on. On Monday we had to go to a Wake and had to leave early in the day and didn't get back home until around 8 pm. I usually workout around 4 pm. We watched our normal monday night shows and I shocked myself by feeling this overwhelming urge to do Helix. So at 10 pm I did an hour workout! I seriousy stunned myself that I wanted to do it and wasn't feeling like I should do it. I wonder if I'm starting to get that good addiction to working out? Hope so because it feels good. My next game will be that new EA Sports Active. I'm mostly looking forward to that for the tennis. The wii sports tennis is cute but the EA one looks like it mirrors your movements more realistically. When I was a teenager I had this thing called a tennis trainer. It was a tennis ball attached to a thick rubber band and that was attached to a heavy plastic base. You basically just wacked the ball and it would keep returning to you like you were playing with someone else. I'd play that thing for hours and I loved it. Playing the wii sports tennis feels a little bit like that but isn't nearly as satisfying and I liked what I saw in the EA sports for that. Brenda Comments: 5 Couldn't Find the Beat Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:02 pm by Oceanrun Saturday weigh in was 215.2 The previous Monday I jammed my right knee and lacerated the dang thing but good. I watched out not to have too much sympathy brew and came out OK. Yesterday I did my first MFC session and today did 62 minutes on the tread mill. 410 calories burned. I have not been that coated with good sweat since my days of running. I'm back on it and lovin' it! Comments: 1 Friday's Line Fri Feb 20, 2009 10:19 am by Oceanrun 213.2 / 0.9 loss. Every Friday I weight in for the real numbers. I am only going to judge myself by my Friday weigh-in. I've had a good week with mostly 0.4 daily loss and gains. Last week, just for reference, I was 214.1 so I dropped 0.9 this week, I'll post my numbers every Friday. Comments: 3 Nat's Activity & Progress Log Tue Feb 03, 2009 9:58 am by Natalee At the first of the year I weighed 232 lbs and started using my friends Wii. I lost 11 lbs in one week. Holy balls Batman! I weighed in yesterday at 226 lbs, I gained 5 lbs back. I haven't been able to use my friends Wii as much as I wanted to, and honestly eating kinda crappy so I am not surprised I gained 5 lbs back. On the bright side at least I am still down 6 lbs. I can't wait to get under 200. My Wii is on its way to me as we speak, I just checked the tracking number and its in Kansas right now. Only 3.5 hours away from me. I am hoping it gets delivered tomorrow, but I know it will be here at least by Thursday.
